Overview
The aquarium in Zanzibar is mainly known as a sea turtle conservation aquarium, especially the famous Nungwi Mnarani Aquarium in Nungwi, northern Zanzibar. It is not a large glass aquarium like in big cities; it is a natural seawater lagoon where marine turtles are protected and cared for.

The aquarium was created to help rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles that were injured or accidentally caught in fishing nets. It also helps protect young turtles and teaches visitors about marine conservation.
